Interview with Universe-Wide Receiver Daniel Adler
Like in 2011: In 2011 Universe-Quarterback Ian Mitchell brought his fellow students, the Center Andrew Ciukurescu, from Dickinson College to Germany to become a "Man in Purple"; now, in 2013, the new Quarterback Chasen Stangel brings a teammate from Northern Arizona College to Frankfurt: the Wide Receiver Daniel Adler, who is intended to reinforce the purple "Luftwaffe".
The 23-year-old Adler now gave the answers to questions for an interview.
When, where and why did you start playing football?
I first played football when I was eight years old. I played for the Pleasant Hill Rebels in Pleasant Hill because my older brother David played and I wanted to give it a try. My first love was basketball... Later I played for College Park High School in Pleasant Hill as Runningback, Cornerback, Receiver and Returner. In College - Diablo Valley JC and Northern Arizona University – I have been a Receiver and Returner.
Chasen Stangel and Daniel Adler become “Men in Purple”
Quarterback Chasen Stangel and Wide Receiver/Returner Daniel Adler, teammates and roommates from Northern Arizona University, will join Frankfurt Universe for the 2013 season. The two California natives both were transfers to NAU.
Chasen Stangel was a highly recruited quarterback from San Jacinto High School in southern California. In two seasons he completed 60 percent of his passes for 5764 yards, 49 TDs and only 12 interceptions. He was ranked in the top 25 nationally and the top 5 in California by recruiting services, and eventually chose Arizona State.
Multi-talent for Offense, Defense and Special Teams joins Frankfurt Universe
Frankfurt Universe has a first U.S. player for the 2013 season. Tyler Phillips, born 29 August 1990 in St. Paul/Minnesota, will join the team during the first week in April.
John Rosenberg, Head Coach of the Frankfurt GFL2-club, is convinced of Phillips’ skills: “In our recruiting for defensive import I looked at many Defensive Backs. Tyler Phillips has played both Corner and Safety and showed excellent performance at a wide range of skills. He can play five different positions in our defensive scheme. Also, his intelligence, personality and values will make him a positive addition to the Universe family.”
Michael Alster während Finalrunde in Kelkheim als Referee aktiv
Michael Alster hat sich seit 2010 bei Frankfurt Universe einen Namen gemacht - zuerst als Spieler der O-Line, danach auch als Coach im Jugendbereich. 2011 erhielt der heute 33-Jährige zudem seine Schiedsrichter-Lizenz.
Der Frankfurter – auch während Hessen Pride-Spielen im Einsatz - war nun während der Deutschen Flagfootball-Meisterschaft in Kelkheim als Referee tätig. „Ich wurde an beiden Tagen in Vorrunden-, Viertel- sowie Halbspielen und im Finale eingesetzt“, so Alster nicht ohne Stolz über seinen Einsatzmarathon.
Testspiel am 13. April noch vor heimischem Fanday am 21. April
American Football-Bundesligist Frankfurt Universe betritt in der anstehenden Saison gleich mehrfach Neuland, um sich den Aufgaben der Zukunft möglichst optimal stellen zu können. So bestreiten die „Men in Purple“ am Samstag, 13. April, noch vor dem Fanday am 21. April das erste von zwei Testspielen, bevor die eigentliche Saison beginnt.
Neues Terrain betritt Universe dabei nicht nur terminlich, sondern auch geografisch, denn im MTG-Stadion, wo die Frankfurter auf die Rhein-Neckar Bandits treffen, spielte der Club bisher noch nie. Kick-off zum Testspiel gegen den GFL Süd-Club ist am 13. April um 16 Uhr im Mannheimer MTG-Stadion (Olympiastützpunkt Leichtathletik, Im Pfeifferswörth 13, 68167 Mannheim). Acht Tage später, am Sonntag, 21. April, 15 Uhr, begrüßt Frankfurt Universe nach dem Fanday im Rüsselsheimer Stadion Am Sommerdamm die Bonn Gamecocks zum zweiten Testspiel der Pre-Season 2013.
