Multi-talent for Offense, Defense and Special Teams joins Frankfurt Universe

Frankfurt Universe has a first U.S. player for the 2013 season. Tyler Phillips, born 29 August 1990 in St. Paul/Minnesota, will join the team during the first week in April.

John Rosenberg, Head Coach of the Frankfurt GFL2-club, is convinced of Phillips’ skills: “In our recruiting for defensive import I looked at many Defensive Backs. Tyler Phillips has played both Corner and Safety and showed excellent performance at a wide range of skills. He can play five different positions in our defensive scheme. Also, his intelligence, personality and values will make him a positive addition to the Universe family.”

When, where and why did you start playing American Football?
I started playing American Football when I was eight years old, because that was the youngest age we can start here. Football has been my passion ever since I put on the pads for the first time.

What high school and college did you attend?
I went to Centennial High School in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. I played as DB and Tight End there. Later I have been at Augsburg College in Minneapolis where I played DB and WR. My greatest achievements have been two time MIAC player of the week and National Team of the week. And I was a two time starter in the All American Bowl and All Conference one time.

What are your future plans? What do you want to achieve in Frankfurt?
First, I want to win a championship with Universe, and keep playing the sport I love.

Why did you join Universe?
I joined Frankfurt Universe because of the great location and being in city of Frankfurt. As well as the team’s great reputation, even over here in the US, as well as a winning tradition and a good chance to win the championship.

How have you been recruited?
I first was talking to Filip Pawelka about the possibility of me playing for the Universe, and he directed me to Coach Rosenberg who gave me great information and insight about playing in the GFL2. I respect Coach Rosenberg's experience as a coach, and I am excited to play for a coach of his caliber.

Which position(s) will you play for Universe?
Primarily Defensive Back, but I am also willing to help out wherever the coaches need me.

Which goals do you want to achieve in Frankfurt?
I want to show that I am the best player in Germany and win a championship with my team. I also want to develop the younger players in the area and teach them skills that they will need as they get older.

Have you ever been in Europe or Germany before? Do you want to do journeys in Europe?
I have never been to Europe or Germany, but I am very excited to be coming to the perhaps best country in Europe. I am also excited to travel and see other large cities in Germany, France, and Italy.

When will you come to Germany?
I will arrive the first week in April, because we start our team camp on April 5th.
